Salt Lake City, UT
/ February 10, 2007 / Press Release / -- It was like any other
transaction expected of a consumer and licensed real estate
professional. The consumer naive to the process relies upon the
licensed real estate professional for advice, guidance and overall
success during the home buying process.
But what happens when
the consumer learns that the person they are dealing with is not
licensed? Or even worse not even registered with the Department of
Commerce?
To make matters worse
traditional home buyers and novice real estate investors are being duped
into purchasing real estate by unqualified, unregistered and nonlicensed
individuals claiming to be licensed to conduct the important business of
guiding consumers and novice real estate investors on a safe no risk
path to home buying.
What materializes
for consumers and novice real estate investors is anything but safe and
usually carries a burden of extremely high risk. Although the
story is becoming more mainstream to industry professionals and
non-profits like Perfect Home Living, its consumers and real estate
investors that are just starting to catch a glimpse of housing's dirty
little secrets: mortgage fraud, real estate fraud and predatory lending.
"It's hard when
traditional buyers and novice real estate investors learn that the
person that they have been dealing with is operating illegally or
because of the transaction that the buyer has gotten involved with is
now causing the family to lose everything because the loan terms were
predatory or the home's value had been previously inflated through straw
buyers," says Sheri Fitzpatrick, CEO of Perfect Home Living.
"The important
thing now is that consumers are becoming more aware of the problem
thanks in great part to professional and ethical journalists and media
outlets like KUTV Channel 2 CBS and Bill Gephardt, " Fitzpatrick
continued.
In Bill Gephardt's
expose, a novice real estate investor and home owner, Terry Dipoma was
steered into purchasing a Park City, Utah condo with an alleged value of
$500,000 using only Terry's current annual income of $35,000 from his
job. The persons responsible for putting Terry and his
family in harms way - Dan and Tina Rebello a husband and wife team from
Park City, UT operating under the business name of "Mountain Financial
Corp."
